Bit-By-Bit is a nonprofit Corporation whose mission is to provide children with disabilities access to therapeutic horseback riding. Bit-By-Bit is an organization that promotes the use of the horse as a therapeutic tool to help special needs children become as strong, confident and independent as possible. Bit-By-Bit believes in the promotion of Hippotherapy or speech, physical and occupational therapy with the use of the horse. Hippotherapy may work on improving a child’s language, muscle strength, play skills, balance, coordination, socialization or cognitive, sensory and motor development.
Bit-By-Bit’s primary goals are:
- To assist children with special needs towards independence through the use of hippotherapy (OT, PT, speech therapy utilizing the horse as a tool) and therapeutic riding (recreational riding tailored to the special needs of the riders).
To provide as many children as possible access to hippo through the use of financial scholarship.
To support and facilitate hippo as a rehabilitative treatment method by providing financial support for specially trained horses, equipment, volunteers, and facility.
To promote therapists’ knowledge and skill through continuing education and research opportunities.
To promote understanding of, working together, and friendships between the special needs and able bodied populations using the love of horses as a starting point.
To strive for excellence in all of the above!
