About Us

about-usThe Bit-By-Bit Therapeutic Riding Center provides quality and professional therapeutic services to the special needs community within south Florida. Our goal is to help all of our clients become as independent, strong, and confident as possible through the magic of therapeutic horseback riding.

We create individualized treatment plans for each of our clients. Each of our plans recognizes the client's specific burdens and develops short and long term goals that push each client to a higher level of health, strength, and well-being.

STAFF:
We are always looking for fun and creative people to join our team! We provide all training. Competitive salary and many horsey perks!

New grads are welcome to apply.

STUDENTS:
We have mentored dozens of therapy students from colleges and universities accross the nation. Call us if you are looking for an exciting internship with tons of hands-on experience! All of our students are required to work weekend hours because this is our busiest time. We do offer a flexible schedule and free riding lessons to all of our interns. All of our students are invited to come and take a tour or volunteer with us for a day prior to their internship to see if our program is something of personal interest. We offer superb supervisors that have vast experience and teaching ability in order to provide you with a stimulating, enriching learning environment. The Bit By Bit Staff

Kathleen Pegues, MS, OTR/L
President of Bit-By-Bit Therapeutic Riding Center

Our Staff - Kathleen Pegues, MS, OTR/LKathleen is originally from the Bronx, New York where she attended the Bronx High School of Science. She obtained a  Bachelor’s of Science degree in Human Biology from the State University of New York at Albany. Her post-graduate degree from Florida International University was for a Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy. Kathleen has specialized in pediatrics and hippotherapy since 1998. She is one of the founding members of Bit-By-Bit and has been our president since inception. She also works as our co-program director and senior occupational therapist, and lectures for undergraduate and graduate college and university programs about the benefits of hippotherapy. Kathleen is both a PATH/NARHA Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and AHA registered therapist.

She currently residing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her husband Bryan,  son Aiden Edward, and daughter Angelina Lilly.


Susan March, RPT
Program Director of Bit-By-Bit Therapeutic Riding Center

Bit By Bit - Susan March, RPTSusan is originally from Connecticut, where she graduated from Quinnipiac College in the 1970's. She has been a Physical Therapist for over 30 years. Her tremendous experience in the areas of physical dysfunction, neurological impairments, and sensory processing disorders has traversed the lifespan from pediatrics to geriatrics. She has copious experience in various diagnoses such as autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, Down syndrome, stroke or CVA, and many other developmental and neurological diseases.

Susan is a PATH/ NARHA Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and AHA registered therapist. She is one of the founding members of Bit-By-Bit, and enjoys riding the horses daily, trail-riding, and competing in local horse shows.

Susan and her husband Mike, are Fort Lauderdale residents with their son Michael Richard who just granduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and who will be attending college at UCF this fall. They are extremely proud of their daughter Sara, a recent graduate of Florida State University.


Debra LaRue, PTA
Davie Facility Supervisor

Debra is a dedicated member of our physical therapy team and she is the supervisor at our Davie facility. She is an avid horsewoman and enjoys trailriding, jumping, and traveling with her love, Snickers. Debra has experience in physical dysfunction throughout the lifespan and currently practices in pediatrics and adult rehabilitation. Debra has been a professional bodybuilder, personal trainer, an EMT, and a firefighter.  Debra's is a PATH/ NARHA Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.

Debra resides in Plantation with her husband.

Volunteer

Bit By BitVolunteers needed to sidewalk, lead a horse, and help with general horse care. No experience is needed, as we provide training. We offer a free lesson program incentive in exchange for volunteering with us (certain rules and restrictions apply). You can earn points toward free riding lessons as you volunteer! This is a great way to improve your horse knowledge and skills! We also offer service hours for high schools.We need volunteers on weekdays and weekends at each of our 3 facilities.Please call Susan March at 954-802-8874 for Parkland and Pompano locations or Debra Larue at 954-612-1389 for the Davie location to schedule a volunteer orientation.

Classes

Classes are held by appointment only and we give standing appointments.

If you would like to register for classes, please print out & complete our New Rider Registration forms to the right.

If you are a new client, call Rene immediately at 786-412-5757 to collect your information or begin preauthorization.
